Individual Style

It's important for anyone interested in becoming a photographer to build a solid foundation by learning basic skills of lighting, exposure and composition - among other things. Taking a few nice shots while the camera is in "P" mode (that's Program, not Professional) does not prepare you for handling the challenges of a real paid photo shoot. I love learning something that will benefit me in my work, and I enjoy viewing many types of photography.  However, I would caution someone who looks at someone else's work and simply sets out to reproduce it. Instead, take what you learn and be inspired by photographs that you admire - but go out and develop your own style. Use your skills to create images that are yours. This is what ultimately will set you apart from competitors. Your individual style.
