L.A. Streets
Our church is involved in a monthly outreach to the homeless near downtown Los Angeles. We provide sandwiches, water and toiletries to many needy people living on the street. Despite the fact that this is a Christian ministry, we do not preach nor counsel anyone. We're simply trying to meet some of their needs for survival. These people are so thankful and we really see the appreciation in their eyes for the small provisions we offer. It's a humbling experience, and a blessing to be a part of it.

Lensbaby
I went to a photo industry trade show on Friday and bought a gadget that I had been wanting for awhile. It's called a "Lensbaby", and it's a cool little lens that helps create very unique images reminiscent of those made by vintage Holga cameras from Russia. Those plastic toy-like cameras had light leaks and cheap imperfect lenses that produced unusual dreamy looking photographs. I had fun just experimenting with my new toy over the weekend, and it's already clear that this lens will soon become a favorite tool in my camera bag. Here's a few samples.

NCAA Basketball - March Madness
Even if you're not a sports fan, the excitement of college basketball during the March Madness tournament is tough to beat. There are 64 teams playing their hearts out to get to the Finals, and only one team will win it all. The pace is fast and the tension builds with each new round of action. I'm fortunate to have a great group of friends - we've all known each other since we were kids - and we have a friendly March Madness wager every year where the WINNER pays for our annual tournament dinner.
It's The Big Dance. . .and it starts today!

School Photography
I've been working on a project for my children's elementary school for their yearbook and DVD. This has been especially fun because the photography has been in a documentary style, instead of traditional class portraits. We previewed the DVD slideshow at a recent school meeting and everyone loved it! Here's three images combined into a "filmstrip".
